System Requirements
Q. What are the system requirements to run the fotobounce Software?
A. You should have a minimum 1GHz speed processor with 1GB RAM and either Java 1.5 or 1.6, the latest Java is available here. Apple Java is native to OS X. Apple OS X 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6, Linux, and all current versions of Windows (2000 Server/Workstation, 2003 Server, XP (all editions), Vista, Windows Server 2008) will support the application. Be sure to maintain enough free drive space to build, save, and retain order files.
Q. fotobounce requires me to load software on my desktop. Will they have access to my computer and files?
A. No. we takes your privacy very seriously. The fotobounce software allows the program to search for photos on the hard drives and other drives attached to your computer. The firewall on your computer will not allow unrestricted entry from an outside IP address. Please rest assured that your files are safe. By loading fotbounce software on your desktop, you will always have access to the most current photofinishing catalog.
Q. What are some of the reasons why the fotobounce software will not start?
- Windows XP Service Pack 2 - Settings of the new Windows Firewall can prevent the client from launching or creating an FTP connection. Try turning the firewall off or set it to prompt for exceptions such as FTP.
- Various Anti-Virus Applications - We have found that the home use versions of the Norton Internet Security/Antivirus and McAfee Security applications can prevent the software from starting. Try disabling these temporarily if the software will not start and turning them back on after successfully starting and installing shortcuts. To do this, open Control Panel and Administrative Tools and go into Services. Find the Norton or McAfee security services (proxy agent, firewall, network monitor, etc.), right-click on them and select Stop.
- Internet Explorer (IE) Security Settings – If set to high may block the ActiveX calls made during the software launch. Try resetting Internet Explorer's security levels (found in IE under Tools – Internet Options – Security tab) to default.
- Internet Explorer Pop-Up Blocker – This is a new option that installs with Windows XP SP2. Try turning this off in Internet Explorer under Tools – Pop-up Blocker.
- Clear out your Internet Explorer cache – This can be done in IE under Tools – Internet Options. On the first tab, General, look in the center section marked Temporary Internet Files and select Delete Files. Click OK at the confirmation window, wait for the mouse pointer to return to normal from the hourglass, and try the software launch again.
Using Moments Desktop Software
I'm using a Mac and want to import my photos. Can I import my photos directly from iphoto?
A. To ensure high quality prints, please export your photos from iphoto to a separate folder. Then import your photos from the new folder into the Moments Desktop Software.
I'm working on an album and want to finish creating the album at a later date. Can I save my work?
A. Yes you can save your work. Please ensure that the "Auto Save" option is turned on.
Q. How do I use the layout area to create my image?
A. The layout area is next to the thumbnail area. This region shows the currently selected product & allows precise cropping of images. To add an image to the currently shown product, drag it from the thumbnail area, or from the local filesystem by clicking on the folder icon. You can also double click one or more images in the thumbnail area to place them in a product. The current product label is shown beneath the layout area.
Q. How do I crop an image?
A. To change the crop on an image, simply drag the image with the mouse.
Q. How do I scale or rotate an image?
A. To change the scale or rotation of an image, controls are offered below the layout area. "Rotate Layout" will rotate the layout counterclockwise 90°, & "Rotate Image" rotates the image 90° counterclockwise. To change the direction of rotation, hold the <alt>/</option> key and click on a Rotate button. The triangle to the right of the "Rotate Image" button displays a slider which allows rotation of the image in 1° increments to ± 180°.
Q. How do I zoom an image?
A. "Zoom" shows a zoom slider similar to the one in the thumbnail area, as well as a check box for crop or fit mode. Fit will scale the image so that the image bounds are entirely within the product bounds; this frequently introduces white space into the product, but is useful for proof sheets. Hold <alt>/</option> to set crop or fit mode on all nodes in a product.
Q. How do I add borders, backgrounds and fading to my photos?
A. To select various lab options for the current print size, click on the Options button. This will bring up the Options Menu which contains a number of items that you can select. To select an option click on the checkbox to the left of the one you want.
Q. How do I order more than one print?
A. To set the quantity of the print size added to an order, simply type the number in the "Quantity" field.
Q. How do I complete my order and checkout?
A. When you have your image positioned and cropped as you would like and have selected any options you would like applied, click on the Add To Order button. This will add the image with your selection to your order. After you click on Add To Order the text in the button will change momentarily to " Added! " to let you know that the item has been added.
If a product's nodes aren't filled with images, the "Add to Order" button will be disabled. To force a product to be added to the order even with empty nodes, such as with a partially filled proof product, hold the <alt>/</option> key and "Add to Order" will enable and change to "Add with Empty".
Imaging Questions
Q. What kind of picture files can I upload for on line photofinishing orders?
A. JPG files only.
Q. I removed my CD/Memory Card/DVD from the computer before I completed the order and now I'm receiving an error message.
A. Do not remove your CD/Memory Card/DVD before you have completed your order. If the source of the photos is removed before you have completed your order, the program will not be able to find them. Files should be copied to one folder before starting to avoid errors.
Q. What symbols and characters should I avoid when naming files?
A. Characters to avoid in file names and file folders are @ # % ^ ~ () {} [] | \ ? <> " ‘ *. Please use letters, numbers and dashes and underscores. Filename should be less than 32 characters (including the .jpg extension). This also applies to the customer information session.
Q. What resolution and file size requirements do I need to get great prints?
A. See the Resolution and File Size Minimum Requirement chart.
Q. For more accurate colour, should my pictures be tagged with sRGB or AdobeRGB based profiles?
A. Either type of profile is ok. Keep in mind, however, more colours are possible in the AdobeRGB colour gamut. Also, if ordering prints from multiple files (in the same order), all pictures should be tagged with the same type of profile (sRGB or AdobeRGB).
Q. I don't know what sRGB and AdobeRGB are. Should I worry?
A. No, don't worry about it. Your prints will look great.
Q. How do I tag my pictures with sRGB or Adobe RGB profiles?
A. Digital 'Point & Shoot' cameras: These typically automatically tag your images with sRGB. Digital SLR cameras: These cameras typically have a menu option which allows you to choose between these two profiles. Check your camera manual.
Q. What if I shoot RAW with my Digital SLR?
A. You must convert your images to JPG with software on your computer. As part of that process, you can also choose between sRGB and AdobeRGB profiles.
Q. I changed the font on my album but it's not appearing on the screen
A. Once you have changed the font style, it will not appear on screen because many computers do not have the same fonts loaded as the photofinishing lab. Please be assured that the correct fonts will print once your order has been placed.
Q. Can I move the text box on my album and cards?
A. Unfortunately, you cannot move the text box.
Q. When will my order be ready?
A. Please see the list below for turnaround times. Shipping times depend on destination. Within Canada allow 2 to 5 business days. To the U.S allow 6 to 12 business days.
